Honey and sugar both are used as a sweetener for years.

However, there is a lot of difference between them compared to the health effects on humans.

Honey:

Honey is an ancient sweetener and remedy for various ailments and healthy nourishment for centuries. Raw natural honey still finds its place in folk medicine, Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and more.

There are good reasons for its medicinal usage, as it contains several vitamins and minerals and has antioxidant and antibacterial properties to boost immunity.

Furthermore, it is suitable for the digestive system, helps in weight loss and has a low glycemic index (GI). Honey reduces bad cholesterol and the risk of heart ailments too. And has a positive effect on many organs of the human body as well.

Even people with diabetes can consume honey in moderation. Especially Jamun flower honey that is considered to be a perfect alternative to sugar for diabetes.

Ultimately, Honey is a blessing for a healthy life, as it is loaded with valuable nutrients.

Table Sugar:

High consumption of sugar is less healthy and leads to gut bacteria diversity. Similarly, sugar increases the risk of chronic diseases.

Since sugar is refined, liver-related health issues will arise accordingly, as the liver has to metabolize refined fructose.

Excess intake of table sugar leads to weight gain and obesity, increasing heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

With the high sugar diet, dental cavities also go up faster. It is not a natural food like honey, so there are no medicinal benefits.

Replace sugar with honey in the following ways:

  1. Baking bread, Cakes, Muffins and Pies.
  2. For making sauces.
  3. Hot drinks – it goes well with hot morning and evening tea.
  4. Also, with flavoured cake.

You can replace sugar with honey in other traditional desserts and sweets. Surely it would be a healthy sweet treat for all.
