Facebook-owned instant-messaging client WhatsApp has a treasure trove of interesting features that may prove useful in times of need. Here's a look at 10 such features...

Manage your privacy on WhatsApp: This can also be done for WhatsApp profile photo and Last Seen. Head to Settings > Account > Status and change from Everyone to My Contacts.
Save your mobile data: Head to Settings > Data Usage and set Images, Audio, Videos and Documents to Wi-Fi only. You can also toggle Low Data Usage to On.
Mute Chats on WhatsApp: Launch the chat you want to silence, then tap on the Group's name in the toolbar and hit Mute, choose your duration.
Backup your conversations: Head to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Auto Backup and set to Daily, Weekly and Monthly.
Recover deleted messages: Check to ensure WhatsApp backup is up-to-date. Then go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup to delete and reinstall the app to restore any lost images
Discover who has read your text: Get a breakdown of who has read your text by swiping down from right-to-left across any messages you sent in a group.
Stop anyone from reading over your shoulder: Head to Settings > Notifications and toggle the option marked Show Preview to off.
Use WhatsApp on your PC/laptop: To use WhatsApp on your PC laptop with Windows or Mac, head to Settings > WhatsApp Web. Scan the QR code within your phone app and visit web.whatsapp.com on your computer.
Send private messages to multiple recipients: After hitting Broadcast Lists in the top left hand corner, add your chosen recipients, who will get their own individual copy of the text.
Easily find friends on WhatsApp: Tap the Share icon next to the text field in a Chat window, then hit Share Location to send GPS co-ordinates to your friends. You can also get directions to their location via your favourite navigation app.
