Titled Sleeping through the Museum, the show, which opened on May 8, attempts to raise an array of questions regarding the function and purpose of a museum. Waswo has worked in collaboration with artist Rajesh Soni on this exhibition. He has also orchestrated a series of lithographs with Subrat Behara. Village potter Shyam Lal Kumhar joins in this exhibition by providing an assortment of artifacts.

Based on notions of what constitutes a museum’s worthiness and how institutions often miss the subtleties of culture in the rush to gather documentation, Waswo ends up critiquing his own work. Waswo and his collaborators raise a wide set of questions that invite the viewer to rethink the function and purpose of a museum. Waswo says, “I’m prone to going back and re-examining my previous work. I have attempted to do the same with Sleeping through
the Museum.”

Shah says, “We thought it would be a good idea to introduce children to performing in verse, and convey to them that there is much more to poetry than just rhyming couplets.” Pathak-Shah couldn’t agree more. She says, “These poems have expressive language, wonderful characters, great stories and a message.”
