Wedding couture gets a new address

When we entered veteran designer Krishna Mehta’s new store at Chowpatty, we were overwhelmed. Coated in pure white with only the garments splashing the colour element inside, the store resembled a showcase of the designer’s trademark style that she has established over two decades — simplicity, elegance and understated opulence.

The store houses the designer’s bridal wear line for the season, taking inspiration from all that she’s famous for — Indian and fusion ensembles that focus on fabric and texture. The store is not just a gold mine of designs for women, but also offers an eclectic collection for men.

Kurta with jacket (Rs 52,075): It’s always nice to add quirk to your dressing. And it’s possible to do it on D-Day too. Add this blue linen jacket to a silk kurta and dress it up with a cotton-silk stole, to complete the ideal look. While it is not over-the-top, it makes a style statement.

Women

If you want a hint of contemporary with traditional then go in for this red number. With a Chanderi, asymmetrical tunic and georgette palazzo, this design is a blend of Indian and Western influences.

For the traditional bride
Peach Lehenga (Rs 65,340): An understated yet elegant option, this net lehenga with a beautiful georgette dupatta will make a statement. The top, with pearl work, is an example of good finishing. Go for this one, if you like all things traditional and subtle.

For the vibrant-palette-loving bride
Green Lehenga (Rs 2,23,000): While red, crimson, fuschia and maroon are the regular colours for weddings, some like opting for different shades to stand out. If you fall under this category, check plumb for it. A chic shade of green, this lehenga with a long coat looks radiant. Created from net, the coat showcases zardozi work on silk. u00a0
