PETA India along with Shoobh Today has organised a photography competition with a theme that revolves around animals
For the children who love to explore their creativity through the camera, this summer vacation brings in a wonderful opportunity to shoot the animal world at its best. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), India along with Shoobh Today has organised a photography competition called Shoobh Photography Contest.

The theme of the competition revolves around people and animals. It seeks original photographs in three separate categories---- wildlife, wild places and people connected with animals. The students of schools from all over Delhi have been invited to participate in the contest. Many schools have also been roped in as part of the jury for the competition.
The idea behind the competition is to introduce animal welfare in the schools through extra curricular activities and create a compassion and greater degree of awareness in children during their early years of personality development.
Talking about the event, Poorva Joshipura, head PETA (India), said, "Animals give us a huge reason to smile and countless opportunities to use all sorts of photography tools - video cameras, digital cameras, film and printers - to capture those wonderful moments. This contest is the perfect platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills. We can't wait to see the images that will come in."
The contest is open to children from class three onwards to those who are studying in private colleges and are of 21 years of age. The participants are free to have a story tagged along with their photographs, but within a prescribed word limit. The contest that started on May 2 will carry on till August15. The winners will be decided in all the three categories.
Dr Usha Ram, principal, Laxman Public School, which is one of the organisers of the contest said,u00a0 "It is a large-scale event and we have already received a lot of entries and are looking forward to more. It is going to be a complete activity season," she said.
Ashish Walia, a class 11 student of DPS (R K Puram) is a photo enthusiast. When told about the event, he said, "I love capturing animals and their activities in my digital camera. I will definitely participate in the contest."
"The contest is for everybody. It is meant to bring out the artist in you. Children have a different psyche and can do wonderful things with their brilliant minds. This is one such occasion where they are free to click and play with their imagination in whatever way they like," said Dr Shyama Chona, educationist.
Well-known artist, Anjolie Ela Menon is the head of the jury of the competition. "We hope to get thousands of more entries this year. The theme is vast enough to get children's imagination stretched to include fantasy and reflect sympathy for the animal world."u00a0
