The portal, which went live yesterday, will allow users to order products via its app as well, available on both Android and iOS. But the experience, it claims, will be different as compared to other e-commerce portals. “Users will be able to place their orders online and then visit an associated store and try it out before making payments,” said Ashutosh Pandey, CEO, Tatacliq.com at the launch earlier today.
Launched under Tata Unistore, a new venture incubated by Tata Industries Limited, the platform will also give users the option to pick products ordered online or get them home-delivered turning its partnered stores into ready-to-use warehouses. Users will also be able to return products bought online to select physical stores within 30 days (in case of apparels).
The company will also be selling luxury brands on the platform. However, unlike other e-commerce portals discounts won’t be a large driving factor to gain buyers attention. “Giving 70% discounts on products is not sustainable in the long term. What we are trying to do is create an experience-driven model, one which gives enough room to sellers to keep things exciting and at the same time is sustainable,” he said, “We hope to solve customer problems, by offering a unique shopping experience that combines the convenience of online shopping with the benefits of physical shopping.”
Tata Cliq is currently available in more than 500 plus stores of 12 partner brands, and will covers more than 5000 pin codes across India.
