The much talked about relationship between Tagore and Kadambari can be traced back to the day when she entered Tagore's household as the new bride of Jyotirindranath, the elder brother of Rabindranath. Not much older than her teenage brother-in-law, Kadambini bonded instantly with Tagore and soon became his best friend his soul mate too, according to some. However, Biswas shares that this musical soliloquy does not mention Tagore or Kadambari other than subtle historical references.
"The play is an open letter from the muse to the bard. She can be any poet's inspiration. I purposely didn't mention either as people will understand who they are through his poetry and songs that will be used in the play," says Biswas. Vocalists Lopamudra Mitra and Paromita Bandhopadhyay willu00a0u00a0 present various songs by Tagore to symbolise the joys and turmoil of a woman who loves a man who is not her husband or lover but her soul mate. Sharmilau00a0 was a natural choice for Biswas not because of the Tagore lineage but her ability to portray the despondency of a woman, who was married to an intellectual, shaped a poet and then killed herself one fine day.
Biswas reveals how Kadamabari gradually became his critic and challenged his poetic skills thus helping him write better. As the play progresses through poems like Shadharon Meye (Ordinary Girl) and Banshiwallah (The Flutist) among others, Biswas says that the audience will witness how a juvenile relationship matures and deepens.
Biswas also reveals that there is a contemporary and futuristic touch to Key Tumi as along with Tagore's poetry, the play will also feature modern Bengali poet Sunil Gangopadhyay's verses. In fact, the play shows how the muse introduces the poet to several recent happening like Anna Hazare's agitation and so on. "She informs him about the goings on in the world and asks him if he would like to be present at this time and space. And thenu00a0 she asks him if she was just his muse or did she ever have any special position in his life," says Biswas.
