Performance lovers, rejoice. The country's number one carmaker has jumped into the entry-level performance car segment with the Baleno RS. And, that is only the beginning. Yes, Maruti Suzuki is hoping to use the RS series badge on other models as well. Maruti Suzuki has already used the RS tag on special edition variants, that is cosmetically enhanced versions of the Swift and Ciaz. However, going forward it will be used on cars that offer a more exciting driving experience. And therefore, you can expect more driver-centric budget cars with the RS badge from Maruti Suzuki in India.

Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, RS Kalsi, told Cardekho, “We are working in that direction (having more cars in the RS series), and as of now we have not zeroed down on the models, and the Baleno RS is our entry in the RS line-up. We're making a beginning by introducing the RS line for the first time and depending upon the market response; we'll take a call in the future.”

So, while the signs are promising, the carmaker is still tightlipped about the models that will get the Boosterjet technology. However, it could be the Ciaz that wears the RS badge next. The Ciaz will step into the Nexa lineup soon, and the introduction of a more premium and exciting Ciaz will widen its appeal further.

The Ciaz ZXi+ manual is priced at Rs 9.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which leaves Maruti Suzuki enough room to onboard the 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine on it without going too overboard on the price chart. So, the Boosterjet equipped Ciaz will not only add value to the car’s variant line-up but will also remain price competitive.

While it remains to be seen which is the next car to get the RS badge for India, it is clear that Maruti Suzuki is looking to spice things up for those who desire some extra punch from their everyday cars.
