Jewels for the Elephant god

While the city celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi, and with Gauri Puja starting from today, the markets are flooded with products inspired by the Elephant god to lure customers. Among other things, jewellery based on Ganapati is gaining popularity, and city jewellers are working overtime to bring out interesting and unusual pieces in gold, silver and even diamond, especially for the festival.

Amongst the jewellery pieces available, one can find supari, mukut, bangles, bracelets, chains, durva, modaks, kanathi and bajooban. There is a good demand for silver jewellery as it is cheaper and looks good on the idol as well. A lot of people are also opting for jewellery with kundan work.
