Dandruff, dry and frizzy hair, parched strands, hair breakage and split-ends are just few of the problems that one faces during winter. The Guide speaks to experts to create a list of dos and don'ts that could help protect your hair from the cold weather
Who doesn’t want to sport shiny bouncy hair all through the year? If people had it, they would even dive in the Antarctic hoping their hair would remain intact in the same form the day they got “the new trendy cut” at their favourite salon. But then nature has its own traditions, some of which include dry, brittle hair every winter. And if not taken care of, could easily lead to dandruff, split-ends, hair fall and sometimes balding.

Since you don’t want an empty patch on your scalp, it’s advisable to take good care of your hair irrespective of the weather. And we aren’t talking of fancy hair creams, shampoos and hair tonics. According to Dr Trupti Kamat, dietician, healthy hair is achievable with a balanced dose of proteins, vitamins and minerals like zinc.u00a0“Hair is made of protein, so keeping a healthy diet and good hygiene is essential. You would get most of the nutrients from green leafy vegetables, pulses, milk and eggs. Besides, water plays a very important role in maintaining a healthy hair. So, drink a lot of it,” she says.
According to hair experts, the winter season is one of the worst times for hair. The cold winds and the temperature drop cause a lot of damage. Most of you would already be facing problems like dandruff, dry and frizzy hair, parched strands, hair breakage and split-ends, etc. But despite the cold weather, it’s important that you wash your hair regularly with a good shampoo and oil your hair regularly, advises hair stylist Neha Khubchandani. “Wash your hair whenever you feel it has gone dirty. And always use a shampoo that suits your hair texture.
Oiling hair is also very important. One must oil the hair at leasttwo-three times a week. In winter, always warm the oil before applying it on the scalp. Using coconut oil with a mixture of olive oil is good in this season,” she adds.u00a0
