Accepting fitness as a holistic means for overall personality development of your child is the first step towards realising new goals of life for your children. Good health and well-being, in short, keeping your child hale and hearty should be the top priority. Through this way, your child is likely to excel in every other sphere of life including studies and other extracellular activities etc.

After having recognised the need to help your child stay in a healthy state of mind and body, through the various means of fitness, the next step is to find ways to engage your child and do so. For a young child, including a toddler, the idea of fitness may come only through learning or through observation. Which means, it is the responsibility of the parents to introduce the child to the world of learning and fitness, just like any other part of personality development and growth.

To begin with, say yes to fitness and mental and physical development of your child at an early age. And this includes toddlers as well. Ramesh Gajria, Founder, TrainMe lists out many ways to achieve so.

  • The discipline of fitness begins at the home. It is always wise to guide your children on the right time to eat, what to eat and how much to eat, without really seeming too interfering in their lives. Saying a blank no to junk food may not be the best thing to do. Instead, make your child more aware of benefits of good eating habits and try and make them mindful of what to eat as early as possible.
  • Enrol your kid in an outdoor fitness activity, which can be enrolment in a kid’s activity centre, for example. Here, kids from different age groups can join indoor fitness classes such as playing football or indulging in aerial games etc. it is a sure-step forward to hone your child’s physical and mental life coaching skills.
  • One way to make your child fitness aware is by being fitness conscious yourself. Children emulate their parents a lot and being the single source of inspiration for them, it is important for you to imbibe certain fitness-related conduct yourself.
  • Fitness does not necessarily mean being overtly conscious. It necessarily means physically and mentally conscious of the facts and benefits of staying fit. There is no better stage of life than the early childhood development phase to softly inculcate the concept of fitness in their minds. However, as a responsible parent, you must be yourself aware of all facts and information so that you are ready to build their confidence level through fitness and good health and well-being.
  • It is equally important for your child to understand and be able to comprehend fitness in a holistic context and therefore, it is important for you to not overstress on any aspect of good health. Do it wisely and with a great level of caution so that you do not overdo it as a responsible parent, ever.
