Popular Comedian and former MTV VJ, Jose Covaco appears to be among the many who are distressed about the incessant cutting of trees in the city. While time and again he has made himself heard, on social media, on several issues that plagues the city – his pothole campaign being the latest – this time, he has taken on the task of getting citizens to plant more trees. Covaco has started a crowd-funding campaign to increase the green cover in Mumbai.

George Remedios of The Turning Tide will be the beneficiary of donations. The Turning Tide is a non-profit organisation that plants trees and collect recyclables which in turn they sell to procure saplings.

Speaking of the crowd-funding initiative, Covaco says, "As content creator, my aim is to do stories around, and help citizens who are silently bringing positive change. I've been thinking about what we can do as citizens, other than complain. And, I think If we all do even the bare minimum, we can come out ahead. I was researching for groups in Mumbai that plant trees when I stumbled up an article about George Remedios and I thought it was incredible that he's selling scrap to fund planting trees. I got in touch with him and told him I'd like to help him do what he's doing and here we are." But, it's just funds that Covaco is looking for. "More than funds — we'll manage without them as well — I'm hoping people will think about the future of our cities and lend us their brains and involvement."
