The rains are here and stepping into unavoidable murky potholes or crowded trains threaten to do more damage than what’s visible to the eye.

Since your feet remain wet for longer durations, chances of inviting infections during this season are higher. Skin infections like fungal growth are prominent in the crevices of the toes, underneath the nails and even the ankles (thanks to soggy hemlines of jeans or trousers).
An easy option is to avoid wearing closed footwear; but for extra care, here are a few tips to keep your feet happy and healthy this monsoon: Toe nails should be cut short as dirt collected underneath is more susceptible to infections.
Exfoliating the skin of the feet is important. Soak feet in lukewarm water and add bath salts or anti-septic liquids in it, which are available over the counter. Bath salts are natural exfoliators and help kill germs on feet and remove dead skin, revealing the fresh, healthy layer of skin underneath. Use a pumice stone to scrub stubborn dry heels.
Choose PRODUCTS that include tea tree oil, which is a natural antibacterial agent or peppermint is another good ingredient. Apply talcum or other medicated or anti-fungal powders on soles and between the toes to soak up moisture and keeps the skin dry.
It might NOT BE SUNNY but Ultra Violet (UV) rays will still cause harm to your skin. Continue to apply sunscreen to protect skin against these rays. If YOU’RE TOO LAZY to undergo the soak, exfoliate and moisturise routine, get regular pedicures at reputed salons.
