Hidden behind designer Riyaz Gangji's store Libas, on Juhu Tara Road, the fashion caf ufffd RG's Cafe is best suited for secret meetings but keep your expectations on its food to the lowest

The arched entrance into the so-called open-air fashion caf ufffd leads you into a space that could've been the storeroom for clothing store Libas, had it not been a teeny tiny caf ufffd. The pride of the place were two huge red sofas placed before a TV that beamed images of designer Riyaz Gangji and his creations, over and over again.

At the end of each loop, the line "You can't go wrong with me" flashes under a silhouette of the designer's face. If only Mr Gangji could be as sure about his caf ufffd as he is about his blingy creations.

We had to place the order after much contemplation. Essentially, because most things we asked for hadn't been readied in the kitchen or were unavailable. So, we asked for a Chicken Kathi Roll (Rs 230), Veg Sandwich (Rs 130) with jelepenos (their typo), mushrooms and tomatoes. To sip along, we called for a Minto Mohito (Rs 89) and a Mango Smoothie (Rs 119) despite the attendant recommending Rooh Afza (really?!). Since the order was going to take a while and we're not particularly fond of being disturbed by the grinder, we decided to check out what Libas had to offer. Overwhelmed by all the bling, we returned to our seat soon enough to endure some more of the Riyaz Gangji promo.

Unfortunately for us by the time the food arrived at our table, we were quite hungry. Otherwise, even gulping down the few morsels that we did would have been difficult. The Kathi Roll was chewy with barely any chicken in it. A roadside sandwichwala would have done a better job of our Veg Sandwich. The Mojito tasted like fizzy mouthwash and there was hardly a trace of mango flavour in the Smoothie despite having sent it back to the kitchen for repairs.

By the time the staff could get us our bill, we'd already logged on to the net in search of a restaurant that would serve us edible food. Luckily, Juhu has no dearth of those.

At RG's Cafe, 2, Sujata Society, near Maneckji Cooper School, JVPD, Juhu.

RG's Caf ufffd didn't know we were there. The Guide reviews anonymously and pays for meals.
