Can someone die of laughter? that's what this new play by fireweavers attempts to find out

While the title of this play may sound humorous, The Man Who Died Laughing actually highlights the superstitious beliefs of mankind. The play is being produced by Fireweavers, a group that is based in Pune and New Jersey, and is involved with promoting Indian theater and short-film making. Directed by Lipin Varghese and Sidarth Dhar, the play is a thriller, which opens with the death of a man who passes away while attending laughter classes in the morning.

The making of The Man Who Died Laughing

The story revolves around a detective who solves regular cases and is bored of his profession. He comes across the death of anti-superstition crusader Dr. Suresh Jha. "The interesting part is when eye witnesses testify that they saw Goddess Kali herself murdering Dr Jha," explains Lipin.

The story has been written by Tarqin Hall and Lipin adds that they have haven't made any changes in the story. "Since the story is very famous, we have retained the essence. Though the story begins on a light humourous note, the background message is serious. We were talking about blind faith that people have about various issues. We have made an attempt to present the story light-heartedly and not on a serious note," he added.u00a0

Their last play was staged in April and due to its experimental theme, it was staged among smaller groups. "After a long time, we are working on a larger production. We have got some new actors for the play who will be performing for the first time,"u00a0 Lipin concluded.
