The al fresco restaurant, Grappa Garden, has a lovely ambience and delicious food, making it a perfect venue for a date

Post 91's roof-top bar and European restaurant has just re-opened after a small hiatus. They were preparing for the rains and now with a huge black canvas overhead, Grappa Garden is ready for the monsoons and has opened its doors to the public.u00a0 We visited the night they opened and were impressed with how nice the place looks. Lovely simple wooden tables and chairs, soft lighting, ferns lining the terrace and a bar that extends almost the entire length of the place. Grappa Garden, named after Italy's famous brandy, sets the right mood for some delicious cocktails. They have a well-stocked and not too expensive bar and a food menu that offers a selection of European / Mediterranean bistro dishes as well as Indian cuisine.

Beef Strignoff


They have the entire range from soups, salads to pizzas, pasta and mains. We begin with a simple Italian starteru00a0-- the Italian Brushetta (Rs 150). The dish was served with a difference. Garlic bread lined the outskirts of the platter while the middle was filled with the bruschetta mix. Whether you choose to eat both separately or create the right combination and eat it, it is finger-licking good. The bread is fresh, crusty and warm, while the tomato-garlic-herb m ufffdlange seems so simple yet tongue-tingling.

For mains, we pick a regular Beef Stroganoff (Rs 325) and a rather off-beat Kingfish with Tomato Relish and Wasabi Sauce (Rs 360). The beef comes well-done in a smooth, herb-infused brown gravy with a side of vegetables and rice. The fish comes as deep-fried cutlets with a light base and a little dollop of the wasabi sauce. While the dish itself tastes great, we expected a wasabi sauce dressing and not a tiny dip. Also, the portions are a bit small, so you might want to order an extra dish or indulge in a pre-starter at home.

Finally, dessert beckons and since our choice is unavailable, we opt for the Blackberry Syllabub (Rs 130), which comes in a glass with layers of fresh cream over the berry compote. First bite and it seems a bit off. We try again and our taste-buds confirm that the sourness of the dish does not stem from the wine addition. The cream seems to have gone sour and we politely send it back for a dekko. Promptly, a spoon is inserted and a chef tries it himself. He certifies that the dessert hasn't gone bad and sends back the same glassu00a0-- the one from which he tried a spoonu00a0-- to our table.

Well, we could, by a long shot, have been wrong about the sour cream, but we are definitely put off by the same glass from which someone has eaten, being sent back to us. The least the restaurant could have done was provide a fresh dessert. Apart from the incident, the service was polite. Grappa Garden scores for its nice ambience, average pricing and delicious food. It could make a perfect cocktail date venue. Just like the fiery drink it's christened after, this is a perfect place for a cold, rainy night.
