Dear Diana,
My boyfriend is relocating due to a new job offer. Last week, he got his appointment letter for a job in Abu Dhabi. He was keen to work abroad and sees this as a first step towards moving to the West. This is something which I cannot digest. I see no need for him to take up offers abroad. He was doing well here as well. Two years ago too, we almost broke up over the issue. He was trying for an overseas job, but gave up due to my resistance. Five months ago, he again started looking for a job and ended up with the current offer. As he will be away for at least two years, I feel there is no point being together. He might get attracted to someone else. I really do not know for how long we can be in a long-distance relationship. He is 30 and I am 27. I feel like breaking up.

Dear Poorna,
Your guy has a good job offer and he is seizing the moment for better prospects. So be happy for him. You are hellbent on stopping him from going abroad as you have your reasons. You seem to have a mental block about him taking up a new assignment. He may want a change on the job front and the time for him is now. As you grow older, you may find it difficult to take risks. There is no need to think of breaking off at this stage. You cannot behave in such a manner in a relationship. It appears that your guy is used to your behaviour and does not react. He is taking your nonsense. Instead be rational, he has not even taken off for Abu Dhabi and you are already sounding the alarm bells. There is no need to worry so much at this juncture. Take each day as it comes. For starters, you can visit him after a while. Weigh the options only at a later stage.
