If you like the thrill of racing, and got what it takes to zoom past your competitors without bumping into them or the hurdles of a race track, an upcoming go-karting tournament in the city will interest you.

Smaaash, the indoor sports recreational centre in Lower Parel, has organised a go-karting tournament at its sky karting (called so because, here the track is placed on a roof top) track, on March 3.

"The tournament is open to all — adults as well as kids (above 8 years and at least 40-inch tall to in order to drive the junior karts)," says Ashok Cherian, CMO, Smaaash. He adds that the tournament will pit drivers against each other, and only those with the best timings will qualify for the semi-finals and finals. "The participants will have to beat each other's lap time, which means they will have to be not only at their best, but also better than others. Only the fastest of all win the tournament," declares Cherian.

However, being fast doesn't mean causing harm to others. Hence, one of the most important rules of the tournament is that it should be a clean race. "Bumping into other drivers, and knowingly blocking their path, will lead to immediate disqualification," he warns, adding, "We have a team of lane marshals, who will be judging the races. They are trained, and can easily spot if someone is racing rashly or trying to block someone's path."

A go-karting enthusiast himself, Cherian, however, adds that go-karting is more than just about speed or adrenaline rush. "Go-karting is a lot about overcoming barriers. When you can accelerate and break through the barriers, you gain confidence. When you let go of your fears, and speed through the hurdles, it's liberating and exciting," he says, adding, "To that vibe, add an open sky and tall skyscrapers, and the experience gets doubled."

The participants will be provided with the necessary gear including neck braces, knee and ankle pads and helmets. However, if you own a helmet, the organisers recommend bringing it to the venue. Also, wear comfortable full pants since racing in shorts is not allowed.

On: March 3, 6 pm to 10 pm (qualifying rounds at 7 pm for women and kids and 8 pm for men)
At: Gate 4, Kamala Mills Compound, Lower Parel.
Entry: Rs 1250
