Aspiring singers, be it the closet variety or the professionally trained, hope to experience the high of interacting with established artistes. To help such enthusiasts understand the nuances of music, Furtados School of Music (FSM), has initiated the High Play series of workshops.
The latest to conduct a workshop is Shilpa Rao, who made her Bollywood debut with the song Tose Naina, from the film Anwar. She will guide aspirants through the art of being a performing artiste, where she will talk about her journey and the challenges she faced as a singer. Rao will also be introducing participants to a few breathing exercises to regulate air supply to the vocal chords, and advise them on ways to work on their stage presence. The cherry on top? She will also belt out some of her chartbusters.
Rao feels workshops can be a useful tool to interact with like-minded people and discuss the passion that motivates them. She adds, "I am keen to help budding singers understand the world of music and help them overcome their doubts and fears about vocals." Ketan Mohite, the marketing manager of FSM, says, "Singing enthusiasts aspire to meet their idols from whom they derive inspiration. The pleasure to meet an artiste and be aware of their journey is huge motivation, and that is what we aim to provide."
Earlier, the FSM team has conducted workshops with music director Ranjit Barot, British guitarist Guthrie Govan (when he was in India last year), drummers Gino Banks and Darshan Doshi.
