Many NGOS and citizen initiatives have provided aid to citizens during the pandemic. In an unprecedented manner, social media has proven to be a life saver in dire circumstances and has played a crucial role in the everyday struggle of hapless citizens seeking aid. It has also brought our attention to the initiatives that are working tirelessly on ground level and helped us mobilise our resources in support of their efforts. Countless individuals across disciplines, from performing arts to academia, have turned to raising funds via online events. From dance workshops to culinary talks, we have rounded up a list of diverse online fundraising events this weekend that are as enjoyable as they are noble.



Move for a motive

Presented by MadHouse, the two day event will give viewers access to a number of experiential workshops on Salsa, House, Bachata, Waacking, freestyle, and various styles of choreography alongside performances and jamming session. Tanya Bhushan (Kings United), Elvis Mascarenhas, VKrump, Cornel and Rithika, Namrata Wittke, and Prerna Nepali form the artist line-up. Proceeds will go to TYCIA’s ‘India against Corona’ and Unity and Dignity foundation providing oxygen support.

Help to Heal by TLPTI

An hour long hip-hop workshop conducted by Simran Dutt, senior instructor at Terrance Lewis Professional Training Institute (TLPTI). Trained in Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Jazz, the instructor teaches easy steps through this choreography based session regardless of your proficiency as a dancer. All proceeds go to Uttishtha foundation- a 24 year old NGO dedicated to healthcare and education.

In this together by Tape a Tale


Among India’s largest storytelling platforms, Tape a Tale has been hosting a series of shows throughout April and May that are aimed at providing people a space to narrate and listen to stories during these stressful times. The series is culminating with a fundraiser this weekend. Take a breather and witness ace storytellers performing heart touching stories and inspiring life experiences. Audience can also grab an open mic slot to perform. All proceeds will be directed towards acquiring ration for migrant families.

Table Talk with Kurush Dalal

Table Talk is a fortnightly series of conversations around food, traditions, recipes, and culture hosted by Peter Griffin. Weekly guest Kurush Dalal, who is an archaeologist, anthropologist, and educator will delve into the meaty topic 'Lunch in the Indus Valley- What did ancient Indians eat?'. The in-depth discussion followed by a question and answer session, is sure to excite anyone who is fond of food, history or anything food adjacent. The culinary talk is free to attend, and audience can donate however much they wish to. Proceeds will go to Kalap Trust- an NGO working in the Tons Valley in Uttarakhand.

Theatrenama with Sunil Shanbag: Playing to Bombay

Look back on theatre's resilient history in Mumbai with hosts Sharmistha Saha and Sunil Shanbag, from the first Bombay Theatre (1776) to the Grant Road theatre district. Vishnudas Bhave will share his impressions from the era of the theatre district in 1853 and how he laid the foundations of modern Marathi theatre. Audiences will also get the opportunity to trace the journey of Marathi Sangit Natak and its revival as a theatre form. All proceeds will go towards Theatre Dost- a support group dedicated to helping the theatre community.
