One of India’s most acclaimed writers, Vikram Seth will have his works read by equally regarded Indian thespian-couple, Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah along with their daughter Heeba Shah, come this Monday.

The joy in store is for city kids as the Motley group actors will read Seth’s work, Beastly Tales from Here and There. The talented trio will be doing a dramatised reading of the following poems — The Eagle and the Beetle; The Louse and the Mosquito; The Elephant and the Tragopan; and The Snake and the Mouse.

The gesture is heartening, as the form of poetry has been facing much neglect in the country. More so, for the book contains two stories each from several places including India, China, Greece and Ukraine along with the mythical place called the Land of Gup. Known for his sharp and incisive humour, Seth’s poetry is decked with animal fables that will give one insight into the eccentricities of human beings as well.

Sharing his excitement on reading Seth’s works, Naseeruddin shares that he will best enunciate the frolicking verse, “With a sense of fun naturally and with clarity of speech and diction.”

Commenting on why the work was chosen, the actor relates, “The animal world’s human parallels are pretty obvious and thus, the words determine the performances. Also, I would love to recite it and introduce more children to these extremely  accessible modern day fables.” Anticipating an engaging performance and peals of laughter, book your tickets now, we say.
