It all began with a shopping trip to Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh. Little did Mira Sagar realise that this trip that she took over 20 years ago was to transform her from a home-maker into a textile revivalist.

Mira Sagar of Vaya
Sagar worked for two decades on dusty looms with weavers in Maheshwar as part of her job at an NGO, which supported the cause of weavers and handlooms. This is where Mira learnt everything about handlooms — from creating the product to selling it. Four years ago, she launched her chain of called Vaya, along with like-minded designers, Gaurang Shah of Hyderabad and Bappaditya from Kolkata.
Today, Sagar designs the most exquisite Maheshwaris under her label, Vaya by Mira Sagar, which she retails at three of her stores, along with collections from Gaurang and Bailou. “The fact that the three of us are so passionate about what we do and that we add a contemporary twist to handlooms and hand-wovens is what has brought us this far,” says Sagar.
Sagar has just launched her third Vaya store in swish SoBo, in the plush and serene neighbourhood of Colaba where along with these three labels, she will also exclusively stock Andraab, a label from Kashmir which has won over hearts from all over the world for its luxurious Pashmina shawls.
At Vaya, there is something for everyone — be it Maheshwaris, Kanjeevarams, Tussar, Kalamkari, Kota, Benarasi, Uppadas, Patolas — name it and they have it!
