Maximum cities
A cinematographic installation titled Sample City that is on display at the Max Mueller Bhavan
Friday, 6.30 pm: Cities across the world can be easily described as living organisms, reflecting social processes and interactions, economic relations, political conditions and private matters. An exhibition titled Sample City, which opened earlier this week (on March 6), takes this thought forward. It describes imaginary cities that have been documented with photographs in urban areas.
Unlike existing cities in specific places, from special historic epochs, or as versions of Berlin, Budapest or New York, urban phenomena, universal qualities or quintessence of urban life are depicted in this exhibition.
The project was conceptualised during the Year of Germany in India 2011-2013 — Infinite Opportunities, an exchange programme between Germany and India last year. The exhibition will also feature Cityscapes, a programme, where several movies exploring myriad cities will be screened. Some of the movies include a six-minute movie Luck Smith, Fiasco – Fragments based on the novel of the same name by Imre Kertész, Berlin Retour, a 1996 film directed by Gusztáv Hámos and Hidden Cities, a 2012 movie.
