This workshop is for hobbyists and beginners. It will be conducted by Abhisek Mallick, a strategy consultant from Bengaluru, in association with Powai-based Zen Aqua Living (ZAL). "People in India are not aware of how to keep shrimp. They go to a local fish shop, buy the shrimp, dump them in an aquarium and then get frustrated when they don't survive," says Mallick, the founder of Shrimpy Trade.

This workshop is about the basics - the different shrimp available, what tanks to use, what to add in the tanks, and diseases to look out for. There will also be a brief look at sourcing the proper minerals, medicines and food. "Our focus is first to teach people to keep them alive and then moving on to enriching their experience," adds Mallick, who has conducted several such workshops. He will do a live demonstration on how to create the perfect shrimp tank. Mallick imports his shrimp from Taiwan and Germany.

"There are finer details to keeping shrimp," says Ravi Khowal, founder of (ZAL). "For instance, few know that India's temperatures are not favourable to keeping shrimp so you need a chiller tank. These can cost between Rs 20, 000 to Rs 3 lakh. The shrimp themselves can cost between Rs 20 and Rs 2.5 lakh (Metallic Boa)."
