A shining example of hope for the survivors of acid attack victims is Sheroes’ Hangout café in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

An initiative by Stop Acid Attacks Campaign, the cafe will be run by five women who have survived acid attacks and will be serving a mix of quick bites and beverages.

Sheroes is also home to a feminist library and aims to be a platform for promoting a new wave of feminism and give equal opportunities. The library is open to book donations, the only condition being the book has to be about women’s issues.

Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani, who is associated with the projet tells us, “We started at Agra because one of the women is from Agra. Currently the property rates in Mumbai are too high.

Our aim is to open such venues across the country.” The space also exhibits handicrafts made by Sheroes and will serve as an exhibition space for such products in the future as well.

The café launches today, which is World Human Rights Day and will also host an auction of five garments donated by Kallol Datta, Malini Ramani, Priyadarshini Rao and Amit Aggarwal, and a bat signed by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
