Frida Kahlo said, "I paint flowers, so they will not die." This evening, a group of enthusiasts will bring this quote alive on canvas at a painting party organised by Bombay Drawing Room. Guided by founder Snehal Patil, each guest will create a painting featuring Kahlo as the queen of art decked in a dress made of flowers. The session, which is a tribute to the celebrated Mexican artist on her 110th birth anniversary, is open to all, even those who've never held a paintbrush.

Belonging to the post-revolutionary Mexicanidad movement, Kahlo painted self-portraits. She was inflicted with polio in childhood, and sustained heavy injuries in a near-death accident as a teenager. She began to focus heavily on painting while recovering in a body cast, and many of her works have been created while lying in bed.

Patil, who discovered Kahlo while reading about women artists who changed the course of surreal modern art, says, "Using her personal tragedies, combined with a realistic painting style, she produced images that were emotionally raw and unapologetic. Her paintings also showcase her love for flowers, animals and the forests."
