As Mumbai glows in the warmth of Yuletide, the exchange of gifts is part and parcel of the season. Now, the recently restored Christ Church in Byculla has come up with a novel idea to join in this spirit. When the second phase of restoration wrapped up earlier this month, trust members and administrators of the over 180-year-old church decided to create commemorative bookmarks, postcards and postage stamps.
The set of four was composed by Vikas Dilawari, who was the conservation architect for the project, while the stamps were facilitated by the Philatelic society at the Mumbai GPO. The postcards include stunning views of the neoclassical church as well as a close-up of the stained glass panels that were restored in Phase II and a collage of the church. The proceeds from its sale will be used to serve the less fortunate through various programmes. Not a bad idea to live the Christmas spirit, we say.
