Known for its unique selection of non-feature films, the 14th fourteenth edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival will showcase a collection of documentaries, short films and animation films from 22 countries

From a dying old man remembering the harsh days post the Hiroshima bombing in Japan to a musician, who has made teaching music to girls his mission amidst increasing conservatism in Pakistan, or the story of a 10-year-old hearing-impaired Polish gypsy girl, who finds a world of her own in Bollywood, it will be on show at the 14th fourteenth edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival. Known for its unique selection of non-feature films, the festival will showcase a collection of documentaries, short films and animation films from 22 countries.

"MIFF has always been about films with a social message, and this year too, we received 825 entries for competition from 22 countries exploring a wide range," says festival director, Mukesh Sharma. Of the total entries received this year, the festival will screen 110 films in the competition section, which includes short film, documentaries and animation films in international and national sections along with the newly introduced public service ads section. "This section will have short films and ads created with a mission to spread social awareness," adds Sharma.

Apart from the competitive sections, there will also be special screenings and as Indian premiere of films like Still Here, Already There (Germany), I M Possible (USA) in MIFF Prism, jury retrospectives featuring the best work of the festival’s jury members Naresh Bedi, Gitanjali Rao, Fernand Melgar and Don Askarian. It will also have a selection of children’s documentary films, and a special North East package along with films produced by the Films Division and Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT).

"Another section, Best of Fest, will screen the best of animation and award-winning films as well as those screened at the Afghan Documentary Film Festival, Filmfest Dresden, Roma Independent Film Festival and Animafest Zagreb," informs Sharma.
he festival will pay homage to extraordinary non-fiction filmmakers, as part of the special Homage section that will include names like Babu Ramaswamy and Prem Vaidya.
