At Pundole's latest auction, 272 lots of fine and decorative arts, including items from royal collections, will go under the hammer

Pundole Art Gallery and its recently-opened auction house, Pundole’s, are hosting their latest auction. On day one, the auction of the fine arts section will feature Modern Indian artworks and select Classical Indian art, including miniatures, tangkhas and sculptures. The decorative arts section will feature an eclectic selection, including Louis Vuitton trunks, Japanese Cloisonné vases, Art Deco furniture and a range of silver artefacts from royal collections.

Day two will be dedicated to decorative arts, including glass, silver, reverse glass paintings, books, prints, carpets and furniture. You can bid for Art Deco decanters and matching glasses from a royal family, silver decorative objects from various royal collections, rosewater sprinklers, tea sets, and Indian lotas.

“Some of the highlights include a large oil painting by MF Husain in six panels from 1958, and a Manjit Bawa painting from his famous Circus series. The most rare and oldest item on sale is a Gandharan relief panel depicting the Buddha, dated to the 2nd or 3rd century. Another unusual item is a portrait of a friend by VS Gaitonde, the leading paintings,” says Dadiba Pundole, founder, Pundole’s.

Pundole adds that the lots range in value from a mere Rs 8,000 to Rs 1.5 crores, so the price points can appeal to a very broad range of clients.
The Old Court House and Writers’ Buildings
Paintings have come from a range of sources: miniature paintings are from the Dehejia collection of Krishna art while the silver artefacts are from royal collections. Some of the paintings were formerly in the collection of Ernst and Angela Jucker while other paintings and prints are from the family collection of Urmila and the late Gunvant Mangaldas.
Prior to the auction, the paintings and artefacts can be viewed at Pundole’s, Tanna House, Colaba, from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm today and from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm on August 26.
