Two years ago, on December 16, 23-year-old female was assaulted sexually on a running bus in South Delhi and left to die on the street.

The incident, though not the first crime against women, highlighted major women safety issues, both in the national capital and around the country.

The girl succumbed to her injuries 13 days later, leaving behind countless unanswered questions on women’s safety in the country.

As a tribute to the rape victims and survivors, and to create awareness about women’s safety, a group of Mumbaikars will be creating a special art installation at Dadar Chowpatty on December 16.

The aim behind the session is to create awareness towards the necessary steps that each individual can take to promote women’s safety and at the same time invite Mumbaikars to share positive stories towards women’s safety.

Organised by an online community, the art installation will start in the evening and will be open for visitors to make their own creative contribution in building it.

One can also contribute by bringing discarded clothing items to use for the art installation like shirts, saris, pants, and dupattas, or anything that one wouldn’t mind leaving behind.

The session will also include poetry readings, discussions and a live music event to create awareness towards the need for women safety.

On: December 16, 5 pm onwards
At: Dadar Chowpatty, near Shivaji Park, Dadar (W).
