THIS Sunday, get a glimpse of the POV of children residing in Dharavi as part of a festival titled ABCD (Art from Bombay’s Capital Dharavi). The day-long event has been curated by Himanshu S and Aqui Thami, the duo behind decade-old Dharavi Art Room, which celebrates its birthday this month. The nonprofit works on several community projects focusing on women and children using the medium of art and photography. “It was Aqui’s idea. She wanted to celebrate the kids’ year-long work and showcase their talent to people from outside the neighbourhood,” says Himanshu.

The exhibit includes ?: artworks, displayed at two venues — the art room in Dharavi (exhibits by kids above six years of age) and bookstore-cum-library, Underground Bookhouse in Bandra (by kids between ;; and ;> years). The subjects of the works include animals, family portraits, favourite eats and places where the kids play. The line-up also includes art and craft workshops, along with children narrating stories about the works on display. The paintings range between Rs 2,000 and 'Rs 3,000, with the proceeds to be used for offering scholarships to deserving kids.
