What do you do if you’re offered a show with comedian Zakir Khan? If you’re Sunny Hinduja, you grab the opportunity with both hands, certain that you’re in for a memorable ride. The actor plays politician Vicky Maheshwari in the second season of Khan’s popular series Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare.

Having watched season one, it was a no-brainer for Hinduja to give his nod to the Shashant Shah-directorial vehicle. “I have [watched] Zakir’s work, and he [along with other writers] has upped the ante in season two. When I heard the script, I felt it was a breakthrough role for me. I was in talks with Shashant for another project, which didn’t materialise. His past work, my role and the people I got a chance to associate with were enough reasons to convince me,” he says. The Amazon Prime Video satire revolves around a feud between the two central characters against the backdrop of elections in a small town. “The writing is brilliant, and the humour is subtle. Having watched news and a lot of public speeches, I got the hang of playing the character. I have taken bits of inspiration from several politicians, including Rahul Gandhi.”

While the series has received mixed reactions, Hinduja states it has surpassed the original edition in terms of popularity. Asked if there’s anything he would change about his performance, the actor is quick to say, “I thought I could have done better in the climax. Then again, I can always do better.” The actor has another big project in the Manoj Bajpayee-fronted thriller, The Family Man 2. “There’s no guarantee that my character survived the ending of season one. That’s a mystery I want the audiences to unravel when they watch the series.”
