Reena Aggarwal: Our constitution is like a mother that treats all her children equally

As India celebrates its 73rd Republic Day today, actress Reena Aggarwal from Bade Achche Lagte Hai 2, joins mid-day.com for a special conversation.

What are your thoughts and memories of Republic Day?

I loved watching Parades on TV while sitting next to my father as it used to be national holiday and didn’t have to go to school on that day. Only after I grew as an adult I learned why we actually celebrate Republic Day!

Importance of the constitution…
India is huge country with people of all kinds, people of different languages, different cultures, different traditions and philosophies but in spite of the fact we still have unmatchable unity as a country. In short, our constitution is like a mother that treats all of her children equally and reminds us that no matter how different they might be from each other but they are born as one and should stick to each other in all circumstances! I think without the constitution we will be like a plane without the pilot, a classroom without a guru/ teacher. A temple without a priest.

A patriotic song or dialogue that makes you sentimental?

The patriotic song/dialogue that makes you sentimental: Sare Jahan se achha Hindustan humara, hum bulbuli hain iski yeh gulistaan humara! As a lot of childhood memories are attached with the song! Maa tujhe salaam  by A. R Rehman sir.Whenever I listen to these two I get goosebumps.
