Today is the birth anniversary of legendary medical practitioner Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, celebrated all over India as National Doctor's Day. The difficult times amid Covid-19 have once again reminded us about the contributions and sacrifices made by doctors and the healthcare staff around the globe on a daily basis.

On the occasion, Television actors Himani Shivpuri, Sara Khan and Shubhangi Atre share their thoughts, lauding the efforts of doctors and other medical workers who have been fighting incessantly on the frontline in our battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Himani Shivpuri had contracted Coronavirus in September, last year. Recalling her treatment days, the veteran actress said, “When I first heard that I had contracted the virus, I could not believe it even after taking so many precautions at home as well as on sets. It was a nightmare for me. I cannot forget the day when I was admitted to the hospital. I still get chills thinking about the days of isolation inside four walls away from my family. But thanks to all the doctors and nurses who constantly motivated and kept my spirits high. It helped me to stay calm. I never felt a moment of being away from my family, especially my son."

Further adding, the actress, who plays Katori Amma in the TV show 'Happu Ki Ultan Paltan', said, "The doctors and nurses truly worked like my extended family. They treated me with utmost love, affection, and care. I cannot thank them enough for the medical, physical, and emotional support they gave me that helped me recover faster. On National Doctor’s Day, I would like to convey my utmost regards, love, and blessings to all the doctors across the country who are working 24X7, attending to patients and trying their best to save lives every moment, every day. I salute their undying spirit and effort and thank them sincerely for taking care of me and help me cope up with this terrifying journey of recovery from the virus."

Actress Megha Ray, who plays the role of Rani in 'Apna Time Bhi Aayega' said, “As a kid, I was always really fascinated and amazed by the life and work of a doctor. But very recently, when my parents were diagnosed with Covid -19, I think that was the time when I truly understood their importance. They have definitely been an integral part of all of us and I don’t think there are any words that can describe the sacrifices and hard work that doctors put into their work. It's definitely not easy pursuing a doctor's life and being an engineer myself, I’ve always found it to be a very difficult job. It requires a lot of time and effort and moreover, an immense amount of dedication. So, hats off to all the doctors around the world who’ve given several years to get their degrees and continue to serve mankind in the most profound, dedicated and selfless manner. I truly appreciate their presence, especially during times like these when the entire world has come to a complete standstill. In fact, I am grateful to not just the doctors but everyone who is a part of the medical fraternity and other essential services. So, this Doctors’ Day I would genuinely want to thank the Corona warriors from the bottom of my heart.”

Shubhangi Atre, aka Angoori Bhabi from the popular show 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain', too had contracted the virus in April this year. Thanking the doctors for their selfless job, the actress said, “This pandemic proved us one thing – do not take everything for granted and life is unpredictable. I never thought that Covid-19 would infect me. But thankfully, I am one of those lucky families who have a frontline warrior as a family member. During this time, my brother-in-law, who is a doctor, became my superhero! He stood by me at every step, guiding and checking on me constantly. I strictly followed his instructions while being quarantined in the comfort of my room. He was always a call away and provided me with medical guidance and with a lot of emotional strength. It amazes me to see how doctors are working round the clock and risking their lives to keep others safe. It is not easy, and I salute their hard work and commitment. I have seen my brother-in-law working round the clock and always on his toes to help people. Being a doctor is not just any profession. It requires a lot of dedication and selflessness."

"On National Doctor’s Day, I thank each doctor who has dedicated their lives to saving others. I would also take this opportunity to send my regards to all their family members who have been their support system. A mere ‘Thank You’ will not do justice to the work they do to serve humanity, but I pray for all the doctors and their families to have a safe, healthy and happy life," Shubhangi concluded.

Actress Sara Khan too shared her experience, when she contracted the virus, and how her doctors played an important role there. The actress, who plays Devi Paulomi from &TV’s 'Santoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein', says, "During these unprecedented times, life can change overnight. You never know who is going to be infected by this virus next. I also never expected to contract it, but I did! Even though I was asymptomatic, I felt anxious, but my doctor made sure that I kept calm and followed the necessary care and precautions. I was in touch with him through calls and video calls, which helped me recover fast. I noticed that even though they have such busy schedules, they manage to give special attention to every patient. I want to thank my doctor for the continuous medical and emotional support that he gave me. On National Doctor’s Day, I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors for being there for us and working round the clock to make sure we are safe and recover."

Our gratitude to doctors and healthcare professionals who are serving in these trying times by risking their lives and are constantly doing this job selflessly.
