Back on the small screen with Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Hai, Meera Deosthale discusses why the show resonated with her

While some claim that television is becoming regressive, Meera Deosthale firmly believes that the medium is improving with time. “Everyone is trying to bring more realistic content to the fore, and actors are not afraid to play [aged] on screen. Of course, there is drama, twists and turns, and all of that. That’s what keeps the audience glued,” says the actor, who is back on television after a year’s gap with Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Hai.

Chosen among 300-plus candidates, Deosthale says that it was in JD Majethia’s office that she learned of the story and her character, and fell in love with it. “When the story was narrated to me, I couldn’t stop crying. In fact, the person giving the narration also teared up. The show is adapted from a Gujarati book and something JD sir has been wanting to make for a long time. I was waiting for something substantial for a long time, and the show came at the right time. In the interim, I was auditioning for roles and trying to lose the 20 kilos I put on for my previous show,” she shares, adding that she took up the show because she could relate to the concept and that it was not “too preachy”. “No matter how blessed you are, dowry is something that happens in every strata of society. But the beauty of the show is that it also tackles domestic abuse, extramarital affairs, and patriarchy in a relatable way. It is also a love story, and about the contrasting values of two families.”
Deosthale has been paired opposite Zaan Khan. Going by their workshops and shooting so far, she shares that Majethia has liked their on-screen chemistry. “He is a nice co-actor to have and vibe with. He brings a lot of positivity on the set,” adds the actor.
