The show has been under the scanner ever since Anu Malik returned as a judge, and especially after the Kishore Kumar episode when netizens felt the contestants had “ruined” the legend’s numbers by singing “badly.”

Indian Idol 12 is facing the heat for allowing contestants to remain in the reality show despite their dismal performances. Over the weekend, a section of netizens demanded the ouster of Shanmukhapriya, who “only shouts and has no melody. She is making a mockery of songs,” wrote a social media user.

For the unversed, Shanmukhapriya and Ashish Kulkarni sang 'Humko Sirf Tumse Pyaar Hai' during Nadeem-Shravan special episode. Giving a glimpse of the performance, the makers posted a short clip on social media, only to receive negative comments mostly.

While many said she spoiled the 'cult' song others claimed that she "shouts". "Can she sing one song normally?? We want to listen to her normal voice..We are fed up with her singing now.."

However, a few defended the contestant saying, "Haters gonna hate!", another wrote, "Your voice and style of singing stands out. Keep it up and ignore the negativity"

The show has been under the scanner ever since Anu Malik returned as a judge, and especially after the Kishore Kumar episode when netizens felt the contestants had “ruined” the legend’s numbers by singing “badly.” Amit Kumar had claimed in an interview a few weeks ago, that the makers of Indian Idol forced him to appreciate the performance of every participant, whereas he himself did not enjoy the episode.
However, the host of the show Aditya Narayan in the Nadeem-Shravan episode, which saw Kumar Sanu, Anuradha Paudwal and Roop Kumar Rathod as special guests, asked the guests whether they praised the contestants genuinely or because the makers asked them to do so.

Kumar Sanu was quick to answer. He said, "They are really great singers and performed amazingly. All of them could pass off as playback singers right now. I have never seen so many talented people on one reality show. Each one of them is a diamond."
Reacting to this incident, netizens slammed the makers yet again calling it "scripted". "#IndianIdol2021 team just proved that the show is scripted and every word by #legendamitkumar is true. No show is greater than #legendkishorekumar dear Aditya it's ok 2 accept the truth," wrote a user.
Here are some more reactions from Twitterati:
Absolutely...the makers of the show love negative publicity I guess.. didn't like this attitude #IndianIdol2021 and the contestants clapping on that..Amitji is a much senior member of the industry and they are just beginning..not good https://t.co/KUmAAjOnmC
