When asked why Dhuan Unplugged is coming two decades after the original, he told us, "Independent music is making a comeback in a more organised way. The entire independent scenario had (kind of) died down when I had released the song earlier. This is a good time to come out with an unplugged version because I was looking at doing this unplugged version quite a while ago. I was waiting for the right time. This song is close to my heart so this could be a good starting point. I plan to release a couple of more songs in the coming months. Moreover people do cover versions of other singers' songs so there is no harm in doing my own cover."
The actor is thrilled to be back as a singer. "Music has always been my first love. In the morning, when I do my riyaz, it's better than visiting a temple or mosque," he said.
Vikas feels the unplugged scene is becoming bigger. "Even in the stage shows where I performed, the organisers specifically request a simple acoustic sound. Then we stick to fewer musicians," he said. He will perform live with a guitarist and a percussionist. Reveals Vikas, "David Sinchury who has produced the song is a great guitarist himself and the percussionist is Christopher. We have formed a small group for my live shows. We have created an unplugged set where the three of us roll out songs with the same mood."
He is optimistic about the return of Indipop to the status it enjoyed back in the 90s. He said, "Even record labels are taking the initiative to support Indipop. Sony Music is backing me up on Dhuan Unplugged. It's a sign of good times to come for Indipop."
