Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Kushi released in theatres on September 1, 2023. While the actress is on a break, her co-star fulfilled promotional duties. On Sunday, Vijay appeared on the launch episode of Bigg Boss Telugu season 7. The reality show is hosted by Nagarjuna.
Vijay promoted Kushi alone. During the launch episode, Nagarjuna asked him about Samantha. The Liger actor shared that she is in the US for her break as she is focusing on her health. Nagarjuna then praised Vijay and Samantha's on-screen chemistry. He said, "You are a fantastic actor. She is a very good actress and you both together make for an amazing pair."

Nagarjuna is Samantha's former father-in-law. The actress was married to his son, actor Naga Chaitanya. However, a couple of days before their 5th wedding anniversary in 2021, they announced their separation. Soon after they shared the statement, Nagarjuna wrote on X, "With a heavy heart, let me say this! whatever happened between Sam and Chay is very unfortunate. What happens between a wife and husband is very personal. Sam and Chay are dear to me. My family will always cherish the moments spent with sam and she will always be dear to us! May God bless them both with strength."
On October 2, 2021, Samantha and Chaitanya issued a statement. The actress wrote, "After much deliberation and thought Chay and I have decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue our own paths. We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of our relationship which we believe will always hold a special bond between us. We request our fans, well-wishers and the media to support us during this difficult time and give us the privacy we need to move on. Thanking you for your support."
Workwise, Samantha had a busy schedule in the last few months. While seeking treatment for myositis, the actress shot for Raj & DK's spy-thriller, Citadel, with Varun Dhawan. Her Telugu films like Yashoda and Shaakuntalam released before Kushi. Samantha is yet to announce her next project.
