The 61-year-old actor took to his handle to post his very first tweet, a rendition of the National Anthem, with a caption, "India's freedom struggle remains unique even today. Respecting it is d only way to keep it & set new world standards."

His handle '@iKamalhaasan,' which has been verified by Twitter, got over 15,000 followers within two hour of his page going live. By now, the handle has crossed 29,700 thousand followers.

The 'Chachi 420' actor's daughter Shruti Haasan welcomed her 'appa' with a tweet saying, "One of the happiest moments ever on Twitter !!!! Welcome my most favourite person @ikamalhaasan to twitter !!! Love you appa"
