R. Madhavans Tamil sports drama "Irudhi Suttru" and Dulquer Salmaan-starrer 'Charlie' bagged top awards at the second edition of IIFA Utsavam

Hyderabad: R. Madhavans Tamil sports drama "Irudhi Suttru" and Dulquer Salmaan-starrer 'Charlie' bagged top awards at the second edition of IIFA Utsavam.


The two-day event, backed by Fortune Sunflower Oil, honoured the best talent across Tamil and Malayalam film industries on Tuesday.


Of the 13 award categories, "Irudhi Suttru", a guru-protégé story of a washed-up boxing coach, bagged three awards, including best Leading Role female for Ritika Singh and best Leading Role male for Madhavan.


Dhanush-produced Tamil romantic-comedy "Naanum Rowdythaan" won three awards - best Comic Role for R.J Balaji, best Payback Singer female for Neeti Mohan and best Playback Singer male for Anirudh Ravichander.

Filmmaker Atlee pocketed the Best Director award for Tamil actioner "Theri", apart from best Supporting Role female for child artist Nainika and best Negative Role for veteran filmmaker Mahendran.

While accepting the award, Atlee dedicated entire success of the film to its hero Vijay.

Writer-actor Arjunraja Kamaraja bagged the Best Lyricist award for the widely popular number 'neruppu da' from superstar Rajinikanth's Tamil gangster drama "Kabali".

Double Oscar-winning A.R Rahman was presented the award for best Music Direction for Tamil actioner "Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada".

Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna won the best Supporting Role male award for playing a wheelchair-bound quadriplegic in Karthi-starrer "Thozha".

Young director Karthick Naren won the best Story award for his Tamil thriller "Dhuruvangal 16".

In the Malayalam film awards category, Dulquer Salmaan-starrer "Charlie" snapped seven awards.

Dulquer bagged the best Leading Role Male for the film, which also won Best Direction for Martin Prakkat, best story for Unni R, best Comic Role for Soubin Shahir, best Lyrics for Santhosh Varma, best Music Director for Gopi Sunder and best Supporting Role Female for Aparna Gopinath.

Mohanlal's blockbuster "Puli Murugan" won the Best Film award.

Actress Rajisha Vijayan for the film "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" won the best Leading Role Female award.

"Aadupuliyattam" won actor Sampath best Negative Role.

Singer Sreya Jayadeep bagged the best Playback Singer Female while Vijay Yesudas won best Playback Singer Male award for "Maheshinte Prathikaaram".

For his stunning performance in filmmaker Rajeevi Ravi's "Kammatipaadam", actor Vijayan won best Supporting Male award.

At the event, veteran Tamil filmmaker S.P Muthuraman, who has made 25 films with superstar Rajinikanth, was presented with an award for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
