Taylor Swift is a cultural icon, a phenomenon we’ve never seen before - especially by one so young as her. She has captivated the youth all around the world with her lyrics and unique style of singing that is easily understood and that’s where the affection and adulation comes from. The Eras tour may be done and dusted but now it’s the turn of the big screen capture of what has made her reach the unprecedented heights of Billionaire status. This concert film experience is a once-in-a-lifetime, breathtaking, big-screen view of the epoch-making tour.

Director Sam Wrench’s cameras follow Swift everywhere as she sings, dances and displays her thousand-watt smiles through a nearly three-hour cross-section of her hits. The audience will see it as a razzle-dazzle technical spectacle that faithfully captures (in all its glory and intimacy) the sensational pop goddess’ sold-out concerts in all their grandiosity. The cameras are never seen in the film and that’s a Houdini act that most other concert films have failed to achieve. We see the change in color to match every era change and every exquisite detail of her costumes is visible to the ardent eye.

The cameras are everywhere, surrounding her from above below and all around, as she and her troupe stomp through every inch of the huge stage at the SoFi Stadium. The lighting is done imaginatively so as to capture every movement and even the merest flicker of expression from the singer and her varied acts. Her career so far, spanning nearly two decades,  has equipped her with several tools that have helped her gain superstardom. Drone shots capture the entirety of the 70,000 plus crowd, waving, singing along and cheering giddily, alight with their cell phones. The editing team seamlessly combines performances spread over three nights, to arrive at a cinematic experience that lends a birds-eye view of the frenzy and ecstasy experienced by her fans. We see the big picture as well and marvel at the unimaginable sway this singer holds over her followers.

Swift is totally in total connect emotionally, with both the songs and her audience. Her showmanship all through 169 mins of performance artistry and technical wizardry, is astonishing. She sweeps through “Anti-Hero” (from “Midnights”), “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood” from “1989” , “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” from “Red,” to “Our Song” from the early days, with unflagging energy and vocal agility. Swift’s 10-minute rendition of  “All Too Well” comes across as poignant with its remorseful and angry lyrics and manifestation. She also performs “Champagne problems” which she wrote with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn and “Betty” on the acoustic guitar with emotional heft while displaying her ability to relate to her fans with vivid songwriting (a sort of lyrical story-telling) and vocals, which have indeed been her most salable quality. Her exhaustive repertoire opens with “Cruel Summer” and ends in the cheerful finale, “Karma.” Most of her songs from movies have been kept out and some of her No. 1’s too don’t make the cut. This is indeed a feature on the most lucrative tour of all time, featuring over three dozen songs spanning the career (still expanding) of one of the most successful musicians of all time.

For the Taylor Swift fan this will be 169 minutes of pure alchemy - an expansion of the concert experience and if you are not a hardcore ‘Swiftie’ this may prove rather exhausting. But there’s no doubting “The Eras Tour” film’s cinematic appeal. To best enjoy this epic concert film you need to surrender yourself completely to the overall sensory experience of it.
