In its fashion round-up of the MET Gala 2017, a leading LA daily described Priyanka Chopra's trench coat gown as the evening's most interesting choice. Back home, though, her stylish outing drew a mixed response. Trolls created dozens of memes centered on the 'longest' train on any red carpet; most were perhaps thanks to ignorance on the part of netizens, who didn't understand the gala theme — Commes des Garcons or in between.

In a chat with mid-day, PeeCee's stylist, Christina Ehrlich, explains, "The dress was conceived out of the idea of merging a piece that tied Commes de Garcons with Ralph Lauren, which was their iconic trench coat. We wanted the jewellery to feel a bit androgynous. Jennifer Fisher customised those pieces with the sensibility of ribbon-like movement that still felt tough."
The actress channeled her inner badass, with black boots, a messy top-knot and silver sculpted earrings complimenting the outfit.
Ask Christina if Priyanka expected the reactions that she got on social media and she says, "There is a lot of euphoria after a moment like this, particularly when you see the first image of her.
We fit the dress first when she returned from India and everything was finalised over the weekend. With the drama of the train and knowing how Priyanka performs on the carpet, I knew there would be a lot of notice, but I was happy to see how well people received the overall look."
The stylist prefers to be oblivious to the trolling while PeeCee has taken it in her stride. "It's good to see your dress serve more purpose than fashion," she tweeted. But, hey, what happend to the train after Priyanka took it off for the after-party? "That's a secret for Sherlock [to unlock]," Christina quips.
