The signs were all there I guess. Warner Bros India refused to have a show for the critics in India and that was surprising mainly because this was a big film for them and their publicity machinery was not even going all out to promote the so-called happening event of its release in the country.

'Justice League' should have been a thundering, excitable romp through fertile imagination- instead, it's a tired almost pyretic attempt at banding together known and unknown heroes from the DC comic book world and getting them to fight a common enemy who is all set to destroy the universe. The immensely entertaining 'Thor: Ragnarok' came before it and the storyline of the two films is similar enough to warrant a comparison- even though they go through differing realms to get to the ultimate goal of vanquishing the power-hungry marauder. In fact this League fails to match 'Thor: Ragnarok' in terms of visual and comedic appeal. The scripting by Chris Terrio never quite gets a handle of things and the action is a little too haphazard to make it seem homogenous or planned for that matter.
The impending invasion of earth by Steppenwolf(Ciaran Hinds), the leader of the Parademons, who wants to recover and merge three magic boxes that will give him ultimate power, brings together an unlikely team of superheroes; Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Lois Lane (Amy Adams), Superman ( Henry Cavill), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
Lois and Clark reconcile while Batman/Bruce Wayne appears to have been shocked out of his pensiveness- enough to be a little more friendly and sociable. Ben Affleck's take here is what makes it believable. He plays him with a Dad-body and injured physicality- implying that he is not as good and sprightly as he once used to be. But that's just about as endearing as this film can get. This DC universe doesn't quite add-up to marvel-lous mainly because the new character additions' need to be properly introduced, gets in the way of the story-telling. The villain too doesn't appear to be as fearsome or unbeatable as he should have been. The lightweight comedic elements play-off funnily enough but there's no sustained thread here. The narrative isn't quite clear about what it wants to be. The dark seriousness of 'Batman Vs Superman' may have taken its toll I guess. The few engaging moments here and Gal Gadot, aren't able to lift this nearly incoherent, noisy and short-fused experience to gratifying. This may not be a 'Suicide Squad' but it's certainly no 'Avengers' either!
