The 73-year-old actor, who is also allegedly set to receive 0.5 per cent of the film's gross earnings, is making nearly 76 times more than the newcomers Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, who were both paid $6,23,000 each, reports a website.
A Disney source noted that the Raiders of the Lost Ark star, who is the key to making this movie work, is the link between the old generation and the new. "Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were good to get, but the film could have lived without them. You couldn't make it without Harrison Ford," he said.
The latest instalment of the famous franchise, which shattered the US domestic box office record on the weekend, made an estimated USD 334.4 million in US and Canadian ticket sales and is expected to rake in more than $2.7 billion worldwide.
