Sources say HBO Max has sped up India launch; to kick off with Friends: The Reunion in June
The reunion special will stream in the US on May 27
Over 17 years after the six friends left us at the purple door, the world got a peek into their lives as the trailer of Friends: The Reunion dropped online on May 19. Even as the world begins its week-long countdown to D-Day, fans in India may not have to wait too long to hear Joey Tribbiani go ‘How you doing?’ or resolve Ross and Rachel’s were-they-on-a-break debate. The launch of HBO Max in India has been expedited so that it can kick off with Friends: The Reunion.

The streaming platform’s India rollout has been in the works for a while. A source says, “The team is putting their might behind launching it as soon as possible as they believe the sitcom special will bring them immense traction. Coordinating remotely has been cumbersome, as India continues to battle the second wave of the pandemic. While the international premiere is slated for May 27, the streaming giant might have a date with India in early June, if all timelines are met.”
HBO India declined to comment.
