Pierce Brosnan, who played the suave James Bond in four movies in the late 1990s and early 2000s, feels the Broccolis will probably never deviate from the casting type they have always had for 007.
Asked in an interview if we could expect a 'black/ transgender/ gay or female James Bond' in future, he said, "I wish I had the keys to the kingdom.
I don't! The Broccolis have that and they will keep it as is. They will not deviate from the straight white male Bond. It's highly unlikely."
However, that's not indicating that the 63-year-old star doesn't wish for a change. "I think it should be different. Perhaps they could create a character who's a black transgender spy."
Adding to that debate, Line Of Duty star Vicky McClure has created a buzz after speaking out on rumours that she could be the first woman to play the iconic spy. "I have lapped it (the rumours) up, why not? A Nottingham girl playing Bond is never going to happen in a million years. But it would be genius if it did, wouldn't it?" she said.
