After all the allegations that Gwyneth Paltrow must have been solely responsible for her split with Chris Martin after more than a decade of marriage, the Coldplay frontman has finally broken his silence.

"I wouldn't use the word breakdown," Martin told BBC, when asked whether the breakdown of his marriage to Paltrow inspired the band's new album.

"This was more a realisation about trying to grow up basically. Like I said, if you can't open yourself up, you can't appreciate the wonder inside. So you can be with someone very wonderful, but because of your own issues you cannot let that be celebrated in the right way," he explained.

The 37-year-old musician continued, "What changed for me was I don't want to go through life being scared of it, being scared of love or rejection."

Martin and Paltrow announced they had decided to separate on March 25 when they posted a letter explaining their "conscious uncoupling" on the 41-year-old actress' lifestyle site.
