Everyone wants their wedding to be a special affair, complete with all the magic, gay abandon and splendour of youth. When it comes to a celebrity wedding, the stakes are a lot higher, with the accompanied media scrutiny. This could be why so many celeb couples keep their nuptials well under wraps. Case in point: Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy. News of the couple getting hitched made the rounds recently with the media scrounging for inside details of the do. One detail that came to light, and surprised everyone was that the décor included ‘bowls and bowls filled with cigarettes.’ With wedding fever on in full swing, we take a cue from this ‘nicotine themed’ wedding. Here’s looking at other celebrity couples that went an extra mile to add an outrageous element or two to their big day.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

While the princess of pop might have cleaned up her act and steered away from her wild ways, it’s hard to forget those days which made so easily for tabloid headlines. After her first outrageous wedding that lasted all of 24 hours, Spears and back-up dancer Kevin Federline said ‘I do’ in a private ceremony, a tad bit too private in fact. Upon arrival, the guests were handed cards reading, ‘Surprise! It is with much love that we welcome you to our wedding ceremony tonight.’ To add to this, the bridesmaids and groomsmen were given tracksuits that read ‘The maids’ and ‘Pimps’.

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson

The bassist for Fall Out Boy and actress had an Alice-in-Wonderland-meets-Goth theme for their wedding. They had about 10,000 black roses and Wentz’ bulldog as the ring bearer. Even their wedding cake had a top hat, a teacup and a pot of flowers on it.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand

Trust Brand to do something crazy for his wedding. While the nuptials may have had a sour ending with the two parting ways only 14 months later, their wedding ceremonies were quite eccentric to say the least. The duo, who got married in India, arrived to the ceremony riding on elephants like royalty. Soon after, PETA India gifted the newly weds a young bull named Russell.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton

When two of Country music’s biggest stars get married, they have to do something memorable. And they did. The duo treated their guests to a meal of venison, that the bride hunted and killed herself! That’s not all: the bride wore her mother’s wedding gown with cowboy boots. The two called their marriage off this year but this sure counts for a crazy wedding.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

Ditching the traditional white colour, the fashion icon went for an all black wedding gown instead. The actress later admitted that she regretted the decision, saying that if she were to ever renew her vows with her husband of almost two decades she would "white it up. I’d wear a beautiful, proper wedding dress, like I should have worn that day."
