Adam West, the actor who played the title role in 1960s Batman television series, died at age 88, on Saturday.
West, who was so closely identified with his tongue-in-cheek portrayal of the cartoon superhero that he had trouble landing other roles when the show ended, struggled with leukemia.
Pre-Batman, he was in the 1965 Three Stooges film The Outlaws Is Coming and the 1964 film Robinson Crusoe on Mars. But, it was his performance in an ad that caught the notice of the Batman producers.
