Singham Again
Rohit Shetty's action drama had to undergo several cuts, including Simmba aka Ranveer Singh's flirting scene and some references to the 'Ramayana'. Reportedly, Shetty had to remove about 7.12 minutes of footage from the film. A dialogue where Arjun Kapoor's character compares himself to Raavan was also censored
A sequence where Raavan was shown grabbing Sita was asked to be removed. A 29-second scene of Lord Hanuman burning Sita and another scene of Simmba flirting were deleted. A sensitive scene that included a violent murder sequence in a police station was blurred. In one instance, the 'Shiv Stotra' was deleted, and in another, the CBFC asked the makers to suitably modify the scene featuring a religious flag.
The Crew
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Tabu, who plays an air hostess in the film, can be seen saying "Baith ch***ye" in a scene in the trailer. Now, the final film will showcase the same scene where the word 'ch***ye' has been replaced by 'bhootiye.' Similarly, another scene showcases her saying 'har***zaade', which is now been replaced with 'ameerzaade' and 'har***iyon' has been changed to 'kameeno.'directed the makers to replace some cuss words used in the film.
Punjab ‘95
One of the films which have been a victim of CBFC’s delays is ‘Punjab ’95’, directed by Honey Trehan and starring Diljit Dosanjh. The film is based on the life of Punjab-based activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The makers upon demand by CBFC made over 60 cuts and presented it to the board. However, there has not been any response from the board on the same
Emergency
The Kangana Ranaut directorial was embroiled in a battle with CBFC over the non-issuance of the certificate for its release. It was caught up in controversy after Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accused it of misrepresenting the community and getting facts wrong. Ranaut had accused the film body of stalling certification to delay the release. Despite all the back an forth and months of drama, the matter was settled with just 1-minute cut
Girl You Know It’s True
CBFC instructed the makers of the biographical drama to remove the word ‘gay’ from a scene, flagging it as potentially controversial. “This request sparked debate within the censor board’s committee, raising concerns regarding LGBTQIA+ representation in cinema. The members discussed internally for days. They didn’t think the word should be muted, but eventually felt that it didn’t harm the core story,” revealed a source. The board also asked the team to mute certain words, including f**k, sex, ass, and pu**y. The source added, “Some drug-licking visuals have been deleted. Plus, an anti-drug disclaimer has been inserted at multiple spots in the film.”
Vedaa
The John Abraham-starrer was stuck with the board for a month waiting for a clearance. The makers also had no clarity during the period as the board refused to engage. On July 29, 17 days before its scheduled release, the Revising Committee watched the John Abraham and Sharvari-starrer and cleared it with a ‘U/A’ certificate, without a single cut. The makers were only requested to put the mandatory disclaimers at the film’s beginning. However, the delay meant less time for promotions for the team
Monkey Man
Dev Patel’s debut directorial ‘Monkey Man’, with a primarily Indian cast, opened to rave reviews globally earlier this year. However, the only country that has not green-signaled the release of the film is India, as the film could not obtain a clearance from the censor board. As per a report in The Hindu, Universal Studios made a few changes in the original cut of the film, by “clipping scenes which sharply emphasized the nexus between religion and politics.” The makers also changed the colour used in the political banners in many scenes in the film from saffron to red.
Viduthalai Part 2
CBFC came down hard on the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer. Sources say that the makers were instructed to snip mentions of caste in some scenes and remove references to real-life political parties. An insider said that the caste mention was removed to avoid potential controversies that could arise from the film’s themes of systemic oppression and caste-based violence. A cuss word translating to the son of a sex worker was muted, as were slang words like ‘Ingommaala’ and ‘Koothi magan’. Expletives offensive to women have been clipped too. The term ‘government’ wasremoved or muted in places where the board felt it was being used inappropriately.
Baby John
The board has suggested modifications to the film, including a disclaimer clarifying that Baby John has no connection to any political figure or entity. The CBFC has also asked for a specific dialogue change, including muting the term “Phule” in a reference to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. The board also demanded replacing the mention of Lal Bahadur Shastri with another term.
The CBFC recommended four visual changes for the film, including one where someone was kicking a 'kalash' (sacred pot). Visuals of characters being set on fire were shortened by 50 percent, a shot of cigarette burns on a character’s face was toned down, and a close-up of a gunshot was re-edited.
Fighter
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)asked for four modifications in the 'Fighter' movie. Take a look at the modifications:
The anti-smoking static message was asked to be mentioned in Hindi.
An abusive word was muted or replaced in two dialogues, one at 53 minutes and the other at 1 hour and 18 minutes.
‘Sexually suggested visuals’ were removed. These 8 seconds of visuals were probably replaced by ‘suitable shots’.
Around 25 seconds of the audio in a TV news visual scene was removed and replaced with 23 seconds of audio.
